Desi Horsman - nutritionist - dietitian - diet - wellness - motivational speakerDesi Horsman

"We are all born with an innate wisdom of knowing what, when and how much to eat. Each person knows exactly what their own body needs."

In my early 20s, I discovered an interest in nutrition. This was because I burnt out and suffered from chronic fatigue (fuelled by my heavy varsity study schedule, work and social life). During this time, I read every single nutrition book I could get my hands on, and became obsessed with eating healthily.

Eventually, the day came when I realised that I needed to find balance. It was dysfunctional being so obsessive, even if it is for the right reasons, and just wasn’t sustainable. I found it very difficult to let go of my healthy fanatical ways, especially because I didn’t want to put on weight. I was done depriving myself of foods I loved, and just food in general. I tried every diet on the market and kept reading every book looking for the answers. Diets work, but they are not sustainable in our daily stressful lives and are not healthy in the long run. It was at this time that my journey began.

I started listening to my body and trusting its needs on all levels. With so much conflicting nutritional advice and so many constant changes in scientific research, often we are left not knowing what or who to believe. Everything you need to know, your body’s innate intelligence already knows.

I firmly believe that everything we do in life is a reflection of our deepest, core beliefs. This is true of our relationship with food, as well as the shape and size of our bodies. It’s important for people to become aware of their bodies once again, and learn how to trust their instincts when it comes to food and eating.

One of my biggest passions is educating people on how to do this. Additionally, I’m very passionate about teaching parents how to feed their children so that they foster a healthy relationship with food from day one.
